Proudly hosted by the Fort Rouge Curling Club, a very successful Men's and Women's Senior Provincial Championships drew to a close on Monday. In the Strathcona Trust Senior Men's Championship, a 6-5 extra end victory by La Salle's, Randy Neufeld over the Granite's Bob Sigurdson, allowed Neufeld (Dean Moxham, Peter Nicholls, and Dale Michie) to successfully defend their status as current Manitoba Champion and earned a return trip to the Everest Canadian Seniors Championships, in Digby, Nova Scotia, at the end of March.
Joining Neufeld in Nova Scotia will be Hamiota's Sandra Cowling. For Cowling, it was third time's the charm. Unsuccessful in her previous two trips to the ladies' final, Cowling needed the hammer in the 8th end to score one and break a 4-4 tie over Neepawa's Terry Ursel. The Tim Hortons Senior Women's Champions include Cowling, Sheila Gregory, Jackie Brooks, Jeannine Skayman, and Coach Dale Brooks.
The Fort Rouge Curling Club wishes to thank all of the teams, coaches, and spectators who helped make this year's championships an enjoyable experience for everyone.
