Welcome to the 98th season of the Fort Rouge Curling Club! It’s great to see all the returning members and a special welcome to all those that are joining us for the first time.
The Fort Rouge Curling Club strives to provide a quality curling experience for all of our members by providing excellent ice conditions, a pleasant cafe and lounge and quality staff. Recent upgrades to ice making equipment, rocks, our lounge and ice barn have gone a long way to ensuring that we can provide a first class curling facility for years to come.
I would like to acknowledge Club Manager, Jeff Hodge, and our Head Ice Tech, Craig White, for their dedication and for their contributions in maintaining our club as a first-rate facility. I would also like to acknowledge our assistant Ice Techs and cafe and lounge staff for their hard work in making Fort Rouge Curling Club what it is today.
Our club consists of a variety of leagues including Men’s, Women’s, Juniors, Senior Ladies, Masters, and Mixed, as well as many corporate and social rental leagues. We are the "go to" club for practice ice for many of the elite competitive teams in the country and Europe and Asia. We value each and every curler and welcome suggestions on how we can improve the club. We even listen to such far out ideas as round tables in the lounge!
The Fort Rouge Curling Club will be a hub of activity during the 2016/17 curling season. We will be hosting the KKP Classic Men’s Manitoba Curling Tour event in October, the annual Original 16 Christmas Open over the holidays, the Provincial Firefighters Championship in February and the ANAF Provincial in March. I invite all of our Men’s teams to join us in the 129th MCA bonspiel mid-January. We will mark this milestone with a pre-bonspiel Calcutta and a “Fort Rouge Night” at the club on the Saturday night of the bonspiel. We look forward to a great turnout. The season will be capped off with the Fort Garry Brewing Spring Mixed Bonspiel at the end of April.
Our club is fortunate to have a dedicated and hard-working Board of Directors and an enthusiastic group of volunteers that we can call on when help is needed. We would not be the club we are without each of their contributions.
In two years, the Fort Rouge will be 100 years old! The club is in the planning stages to celebrate this once in a lifetime event. Members and volunteers are encouraged to come forward and help us make the centennial a memorable one.
I look forward to serving a second year as your President and to an exciting and busy year at “The Rouge”. Good luck in your curling and if I don’t see you on the ice I will certainly see you upstairs in the lounge!
