Welcome to our new and returning members to the Fort Rouge Curling Club as we all enjoy safe and healthy competition having fun in this, our 99th season. We also welcome all of our rental leagues and friends of the Rouge and thank you for your continued support with your use and enjoyment of our facilities. All of you are keys to our success going forward. On behalf of our Board of Directors it is a pleasure to represent you in my first term as your President as we look ahead to a bright future in the next millennia of our existence.
Our past and present board members, our hard working staff, and our dedicated volunteers accept the challenge you give us by constantly working toward preserving and improving upon our success as a club. Believe me when I say we are not complacent about that success.
In recent years we have upgraded our ice making equipment, our rocks, our ice barn, our main floor, and our lounge. At the present time we’re underway on our ten year Capital Improvement Plan. This season our kitchen is undergoing a much needed major renovation project which includes state of the art, energy efficient commercial appliances and code upgrades to current standards replacing our grandfathered status. These improvements will reduce our utilities costs, improve our safety features, and enhance our service to our valued customers. We thank you for your support and patience throughout this process and know that the wait for the work to be done will be worth it.
We’re proud to host several great competitive events this season at the Rouge including the KKP Classic Bonspiel, Travellers Club playoffs, Masters Berth Bonspiel, Original 16 Christmas Open , Bad Boy Spiel, and the Fort Garry Brewing Spring Mixed Spiel. As we look forward to another Manitoba Open Bonspiel in 2018, I’m reminded that the number of Fort Rouge teams registered in the last one was second to none.
Kudos to our outgoing Bonspiels chair Mark Blanchard for all you’ve done handling these events. I would also like to recognize and celebrate the continued hard work and dedication of our current and past board members, our Past Presidents, our terrific Ice Maker, Craig White and his staff, our remarkable cafe staff led by Brigette, our friendly and efficient lounge staff, and most certainly our Manager, Jeff Hodge. We’re fortunate to have such great staff and volunteers looking after our members.
In summary there’s no doubt that the capital improvements to our building combined with first class ice conditions, and great events for which to enjoy them, make for one great experience whenever you join your friends to curl or cheer at the Rouge. That’s the experience we want to keep going in to our next hundred years.
